Why the Name “Allele”?

Let’s start at the root. The word “Allele” comes from science. In genetics, an allele is a variant of a gene.
It’s what makes you different from everyone else. Even two people who look the same on the outside have different alleles on the inside.

No two people are exactly the same.
That’s the magic of being human.

So when we chose the name Allele, we chose to celebrate individuality — in the truest form.

Because just like genes make us who we are on the inside, we believe fashion should show who we are on the outside.

What Do We Do at Allele?

At our core, we are creators of fashion — but not in the usual way.
We take something ancient, something deeply rooted in our Indian heritage — Shibori — and give it new life.

Shibori is a traditional dyeing technique that creates beautiful patterns on fabric.
It’s slow, careful, and handmade. Every pattern is different. Every piece is one-of-a-kind.

At Allele, we use Shibori to design modern, bold, and beautiful clothing.

Where It All Began

This story started long before I (Naaz, the founder) was born.
It began in the late 1990s, when my father discovered the beauty of Shibori at a time when hardly anyone knew its name.

He believed in it deeply. He worked with artisans, learned the process, and started creating pieces that people couldn’t stop admiring.
He built something beautiful from scratch — not just a business, but a legacy.

I grew up in that world. I watched him create. I listened to the questions people asked — “Why this design?” “Why not something else?”
And for a long time, I asked those questions too.

But slowly, I found my own answers.

I didn’t just want to carry the tradition forward.
